I recently realized that if I do not paint using colors that pop and subjects that I personally find interesting, intriguing, and connect with, I get very unmotivated and my work will display the lack of confidence. I enjoy creating realistic subjects such as animals, candy, or makeup, while incorporating pop art elements. I typically work with paint because I love how I can easily mix colors to create any shade I desire.
I wanted my summer work to portray my vibrant, fun, and whimsical style I’m trying to possess. I decided to paint animals because I liked the idea of taking a realistic subject and giving it unrealistic qualities. I painted a giraffe, peacock, and llama with cool toned vibrant colors and crazy glasses. I decided to work on burlap canvas because it helped exaggerate the “fuzzy” look of animals. I wanted the animals to wear glasses because I felt it would add a witty and childlike element to my work. My summer work gave me an insight to what I really want to create.
I like to keep my work light hearted and positive because I want the viewer to feel happy and find an escape from any negativity they may be experiencing. I want my work to be a positive escape for people.
