Intelligence: My work was both technique and idea driven. My subject was aggression so I painted with expressive thick strokes and scratched off some of the paint. I decided to paint lips because the mouth can express so many emotions
Investment: I struggled in class to come up with ideas, so I did the majority of this project at home. If I could do this project over again I would get started a lot earlier. Since I started this project so late, I felt creatively limited and rushed.
Difficulty: My biggest challenge was coming up with an idea. My materials were lipstick and old drawings, my artist was Paul Klee, and my subject was aggression. I struggled with incorporating aggression into my work since I always paint with clean lines and bright colors. I decided to paint a mouth that was gnashing its teeth to show aggression. The lipstick was extremely hard to work with. It never dried and smeared on everything. I had to use the lipstick in very small amounts for it to dry on my piece and it ended up loosing its texture and looking like paint .
Self Assessment: I would give myself a B on this project. I think my piece is creatively lacking and I feel like I needed to think deeper in order to give my work more meaning. I do think I did a good job painting the lips and the background, but overall, I wish there were more elements and creativity to my work.
